orchid roots care

I think my orchid may be dying.....please help if your experienced with phaleanopsis?
I received it as a birthday present about two weeks ago , and it had 3 open flowers and 2 buds.I watered it then placed it near a window(indirect sunlight) then suddenly one by one they all started to shrivel and fall including the buds, which never even opened. I don't know if i over watered it , but i saw a video of this guy who raises orchids for a living or whatever and on his video he says to drench the orchid then leave it for a week or so, and other people say to rarely water it, so which one is it? any waysthat'ss what i did, i also looked at the roots and some are white yellowish and others are green. Pretty much i just want any opinions on how to care of it, how much water exactly i should use when watering, and if you think its dying how can i save it? Should i cute the stem ? if so how? PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!
this is my orchid right now:

We grow orchids. They love humidity. We sit our plants (we have 26) in trays that have stones and water in them. The stones support the pots above the water. You do not want to have the pots sit directly in the water. We water the plants once a month. Not a drenching. They also like to stay in a steady temperature area. 65-70 degrees. Keep away from drafts.
